Elliott Erwin is a street photographer, most known for his humorous photos and his eye for humanity. He works in a street photography style because he believes in noticing human nature and wished to share it. He works primarily in black and white, using much contrast and value. His work portrays a strong understanding of depth of field and lighting. He is my favorite street photographer because he shares the humorous side of humans, while also portraying how intricate we are.

Photo Documentary and Street Photography often get confused as being the same thing, but they are actually quite different. Photo Documentary is a body of work that tells a story around a specific event, while Street Photography is defined as random photographs meant to capture candid moments in time. They are similar, as they both involve the photographer capturing a moment in time. However, they are different, as Photo Documentaries are multiple photos that capture a very specific event, while Street Photography is only individual shots, not taken about a specific event.
Steve McCurry and Mario Testino are some of the biggest names in portrait photography. McCurry is well known for capturing the cultures of many people by using simple backgrounds, vivid colors, and by focusing on the eyes on the subject. Testino is known for his portraits of celebrities and capturing their personalities by using relatively the same approaches as McCurry. Their work is similar in that they are very simple portraits, but tell incredible stories, as the eyes are their main focus. However, they are different, as Testino works in black and white as well as color while McCurry focuses heavily on color. McCurry's photos tend to tell more about cultures and how his subjects live, while Testino's photos tell more about the personality of the figure. I prefer the work of McCurry, as I love how real the portrayals of his subjects are.
