Final Project
The theme of my project is Spring Has Sprung. I chose this theme because it has been a very long and stressful school year, and the flowers are a good reminder that it is almost over. The rules of composition I used were the rule of thirds, leading lines, depth of field, and contrast in colors. I used them to help draw the eye to the flower, and make the photos interesting. Through my piece, I want people to learn that no matter how hard and stressful and "winter-y" life gets, there is always a "summer-y" light at the end of the tunnel. This project is different than my other projects because the theme is more simple, and it's very easy to understand and enjoy the photos. Some successes of this challenge were taking the photos and coming up with the theme, while the challenges were getting the project done on time.

Installation Project
Installation art is a form of art in which the artist transforms a space into something new. Transformation art usually includes a message about a certain subject, and is usually something that the viewer can interact with. It's purpose is to entertain, while also express the artist's views. My theme is LGBT+ in our school. I chose this theme because many of my friends are on the LGBT+ spectrum, and I myself identify as asexual. I originally intended for my piece to have 320 photos, each representing one LGBT+ student in South High (I came up with that total through various calculations and ratios). I then realized that 320 would be too many, so instead of doing the entire school, I changed it to just one grade level, making it only 80 photos. Some successes I had were editing my photos and coming up with the ideas for the project. A challenge I had was getting the photos taken, as well as getting the project done in time. From this piece, I want people to learn that people who identify as LGBT+ are all over the place, and that they're just as human as anyone else.
*NOTE: This is merely a representation of the number of the community. The people represented in these photos are not necessarily of the LGBT+ spectrum, and it is in no way intended that they are.

Macro Photography
Macro photography is a style of photography in which the photographer takes photos of small objects and makes them look larger than life, in order to bring attention to otherwise unnoticeable detail.
For this project, we had to take macro photos in two different lighting conditions: light, and dark. I chose to take photos of various objects around the classroom, some with the light on and some with it off.

Memes
Memes are humorous or relatable photos with captions. The purpose of a meme is to entertain, and also to express emotion. With my memes, I chose various photos I've taken of my cats that I found funny, and I added comments that related to the photos. For instance, in one photo, my cat is cuddling with a Christmas ornament, and I made a comment about how I wish it was Christmas all year. Some successes were coming up with captions for the photos that made sense, while some challenges I had were actually finding good photos to use, as I don't really ever take funny photos. Next time, I might prepare more by taking more photos of the people I hang out with in order to get more options.
Emotions Photography
For this assignment, we had to put our portrait photography skills to the test and photograph various emotions. The ten photos had to feature a different emotion, and each needed to be shown clearly by both the model and photographer. Some successes of this project were capturing good portraits using the rules of composition, while some challenges were creating the emotions we were trying to portray, as it took a great deal of acting, as well as coming up with the various emotions. From this project, I want people to learn that photography is more than who takes the picture, but also the circumstance in which the photo is taken.
Magazine Cover
For this project, we had to create a magazine cover using one of our own photos in order to apply our photography to real-life circumstances. I chose to use a photo I recently took at a concert of one of my favorite bands, Last In Line, as I am very proud of the photos I took that night. I decided to make the magazine music themed, as music is my passion. I set the date of the magazine as February of 2016, because I wanted to theme the magazine on events that happened the previous month. In January of 2016, David Bowie passed away, Last In Line were preparing to release an album, as were Cheap Trick, so I decided to reference those events in my cover. Some successes of this project were making the magazine. I have always enjoyed working with layers in order to make an image, and this was the perfect project to apply those skills. I had no challenges, and it was extremely easy for me.

Photo Documentary
For this project, we had to take ten photos that followed a theme or an issue that is important to us. Since I don't really have any social issues that are important to me, which is what this project is supposed to highlight, I chose music instead, because music is probably the most important thing in my life. Some challenges I faced were coming up with a theme and making the photos tell a story. The only success I had was producing photos with strong depth of field. I did, however, kind of choose to follow my own journey with music, with the various instruments I play, pictures of my favorite albums, and my own personal experiences with my favorite musicians. From this project, I want people to learn that the things that are important to you don't always have to be big social issues we see in today's society, but they can also be smaller things.

Light Painting
For this project, we had to create a story using light painting, a style of photography characterized by a "drawing" created using light. We had to take ten photos that created a story with a beginning, a middle, and an end. My story was inspired by light painting photographer Janne Parviainen, who often features human figures in his photos. The theme of my story is love. A man finds a flower and picks it and decides to give it to the girl he likes. She takes the flower and they fall in love. A success of this project was creating understandable designs, while a challenge was coming up with the story.

Faux Street Art
Street Photography is defined as random photographs meant to capture candid moments in time. For this project, we had to look through our photo archives and choose ten photos that could become "street photos," and then we had to doctor the saturation and contrast to make them look like street photos. This "faux" street art project was designed to help us identify what is in fact street art, and what is documentary photography. I think I was fairly successful, as I did have a number of photos that looked like they could be street art, however I didn't have a solid ten so I had to slightly improvise.
Faces of Denver South
For this project, we had to take 10 black and white portraits of the people of Denver South High School. The purpose of this project was to enhance our portraiture skills, and to take respectful photographs that tell stories. It is important to photograph a wide variety of people to show the diversity of South. Some successes I had were taking some good looking portraits, while some challenges I faced were finding people to photograph. From this project, I learned that people's stories and personalities can be shown very clearly through a simple photograph, and I hope that others learn that portrait photography is not something you should shy away from, as it's made to show the subjects as the person they are.

Vector Mask Portrait
I photographed Alexzondra DuPree, a 10th grader. I believe I captured her personality, as she is happy and passionate which I believe can be seen through her eyes. The part I like about this photo is her eyes, as they are very bright and have good contrast I kept her lips in color, and although it's hard to see, I kept her eyes in color too, as those are the elements of the photo that really show her personality most. I want the viewer to see that portraits don't have to show the subject's serious side to be a good portrait, but can also show their happy side as well.

Toys Come To Life
For this project, we had to take photos of toys using various techniques such as angles, depth of field, and lighting to make them look as if they had come alive. A success was using angles to my advantage, making the figures look larger than normal. Some challenges were coming up with creative ideas for photos, and making them turn out good. This has taught me that some photography techniques are harder than others, and that a lot of effort goes into Scale Photography. In the future, I would like be better prepared and take photos of a wider variety of subjects. I believe this was one of my weakest projects, so I would like to work to make my next project a better body of work.

The Egg
For this project, we were asked to take photos of an egg using the Rules of Composition and lighting techniques. We had two themes - Sublime Egg, and Creative Egg. For the Sublime Egg portion, we had to take photos of the egg and make it look as beautiful as possible, or even "sexy". For the Creative Egg portion, we took photos of the egg in various locations in order to tell a story. Some successes were coming up with ideas for the Creative Egg portion, as I find it very easy to tell a story in my photos. However, it was a challenge to come up with ideas for the Sublime Egg photos and use the Rules of Composition, as it is hard to make an egg look beautiful and artistic. I learned that no matter what the subject is, you can make it look good. I hope to improve my skills of the Rules of Composition in order to make my photos look even better.

Composition Project
For this project, we had to choose a theme and take 8-10 photos of that theme using the 10 Rules of Composition. I chose the theme of "soda", because my mother and I have an extensive collection of Coca-Cola antiques. Some successes of this project were coming up with creative ideas and using my resources that I have at home. Some challenges were using the Rules of Composition, as I had a hard time applying them to many of my subjects. Through my photos, I want people to learn that when you have a specific topic like soda, your subjects don't have to simply be what first comes to mind (soda in a glass or bottle). They can be creative artifacts that give variety.

Scavenger Hunt
For this assignment, we were asked to go on a scavenger hunt. We were given a list of 36 different subjects we had to capture in order to practice the rule of thirds, cropping and framing an image, and using the rules of composition. Some challenges I faced were finding subjects. Many photos fit under multiple categories, making it difficult to choose what photo should go where, but ultimately I did and I got some great photos out of it. I got to travel around the city to capture various scenes, and while some images didn't turn out, some turned out to be some of the best photos I've ever taken, and I call that a success. My take-away from this project is that I now have a better understanding of the rules of composition, which I can use for photography in the future.

The Selfie
For this assignment, we were asked to take three selfies in the modern style of Kim Kardashian, and three selfies in the vintage style of Vivian Maier. A challenge with this assignment was finding different reflective surfaces I could use to capture the Maier-esque selfies, while a success was taking the Kardashian-esque selfies, as they are simple. Something I learned from this assignment was that not all selfies are simple and that many have intense meaning. Next time, I would take a wider variety of selfies in the style of Kim K, to get variation.
