A watermark is a design on a photo that identifies the owner of the photo and the photo's copyright information, so the photo is not copied or stolen by another. They are extremely important, as many people attempt to claim artwork as their own when it's not and/or sell it without the owner's permission. Watermarks prevent that, as they tell who owns the photo. They can be easily applied using many photo editing softwares. They can be a signature, text, a logo, as well as other things, and often include the name of the artist, the date the photo was taken, a phone number, email address, or website of the owner. If your watermark is not registered, you can only recover damages if someone infringes. However, if you do register it, you will have full legal protection.

Aperture, Depth of Field, Shutter Speed and ISO are all fundamental aspects in the composition of photographs. Aperture controls how much light enters the camera. ISO controls the camera's sensitivity to that light. Depth of Field is how much of the photo appears sharp. Shutter Speed is the length of time in which the shutter of the camera is open. The four work together quite closely. For example, when photographing a subject far away, the wider the aperture, the more depth of field there is. To change your depth of field, instead of changing your focus distance, you can change your aperture. Of course, this also will change the ISO and the Shutter Speed, as those come hand in hand with aperture.
Josef Sudek was a Czech photographer. He fought in the first world war, which lead to his right arm being amputated. After the war, he became a photographer, well known for his still life photography. His photos are black and white with good use of contrast, they are simple with a clear subject. He uses leading lines to emphasize that subject and rule of thirds, making his photos visually appealing. One of his most photographed subjects is an egg. He does use other subjects for his still life photos such as vases, bread, and flowers, which help him practice various Rules of Composition and lighting. He teaches photographers that simple photographs don't have to be boring, but can be very intricate and artistic.
The most important aspect in photography is light, but sometimes, light doesn't shine on the subject like we want it to. So, we use tools to help us. Reflectors are tools used to help bounce and enhance light onto a subject. Diffusers are used to spread light out and soften shadows. There are many different types of reflectors that are used for different situations. Different colors are used for different purposes:
Silver: increases highlights and contrast - good for video or black & white shots Gold: gives a natural golden hue - good for sunsets or indoor portraits White: produces an even natural color light Black: Used to block or subtract light Translucent Fabric: Used to diffuse light and create a soft effect. CThere are three rules of light:
When thinking in terms of photography, we tend to use the words 'photograph' and 'picture' interchangeably. However, what many fail to realize is that there is in fact a difference between the two words. A 'picture' is usually quick, designed for capturing the moment. It often does not include any of the Rules of Composition or thought behind it, therefore making it a 'picture'. However, a 'photograph' is quite the opposite in that it is almost never quick, and that it requires much thinking behind it. 'Photographs' usually tell an intricate story, where as 'pictures' generally do not.
Here, I show the difference between a 'picture' and a 'photograph' using the same model.
The Rules of Composition help improve photographs by making them visually appealing, and easier to understand. Some of the most important ones in my opinion are removing clutter, putting your subject not in the center of the frame, and simplifying backgrounds, as they make the photos most visually appealing and simple.
A selfie is a photo taken by the photographer of themselves. Selfies are often posted on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat etc. as a way to connect with friends and followers and gain recognition. It is also used as a form of communication, as selfies portray how the subject is feeling in that moment and their surroundings, which makes a selfie an accurate form of communication. There are different types and styles of selfies which can be seen by comparing those of Vivian Maier and Kim Kardashian. Maier's selfies can be described as old-fashioned and artistic, as they are black & white with many details. Contrasting, Kardashian's selfies can be described as vivid and modern, as they are very simple in design. However, both still portray a look into each of their lives, making them still a reliable form of communication.
